Yzerman vs Sakic?

Question: Who's the better BC-born player? Both can rack up the points. Both are/were long-serving captains of their team. Both won multiple Stanley Cups (Yzerman 3, Sakic 2). Both won a Conn Smythe. Sakic won a Hart. I think Yzerman is the #4 or 5 scorer of all time, and Sakic is currently #10, but still going strong.

Answer: It's a tough question since they both have fairly similar career stats, as far as points per game goes, but Sakic was never quite the 2 way player Yzerman was. Sakic did win the Hart Trophy in 2001 and Yzerman never managed to win it mostly due to having to play his best years along with Lemiuex and Gretzky. Yzerman scored 155 points in his best season compared to only 120 in Sakic's best year. Yzermans 3 most productive years were better than Sakics best year. Sakic scored 50 goals or more in a season only 2 times while Yzerman did it 5 times. I think that had Yzerman not had such limiting injuries later in his career we would have seen a longer even more productive late career numbers. Sakic has had his share of injuries but never the severity of those that Yzerman. So as you can see I'm certainly making more of a case for Yzerman, while I have great respect for what Joe has done in his career the vote goes to The Captain...Stevie Y! Although Mike (Avs Fan) makes the point that Yzerman never won a Hart Trophy, Sakic had the Luxury of not having to play the High point of his career during the same time as Wayne and Mario. The Year Yzerman scored 155 points he was the Pearson Award winner (Players MVP) but in that year both Wayne and Mario had more points than Yzerman. Lemieux had 199 points that year and the Players still voted Yzerman the winner of the Lester B Pearson Award. Sakic never had the competition for the Hart that Yzerman had or he would most likely won a couple. ONLY Lemieux and Gretzky have EVER scored more points in a single season the Yzerman. He also had the additional Luxury of having a better all around team with him in his glory days while Yzermans best days were behind him by the time he had the teams that ran for the cup.
